“LEGO ® my blender!” Dyson wants you to build upward, not across your kitchen

|

Think about all the space your toaster, blender, and food processor take up in your kitchen. Now imagine if those same appliances could be combined into one modular and stackable unit, sort of like appliance LEGOs ®. That’s the idea behind vacuum cleaner inventor James Dyson’s newest patent, the “modular, space-saving kit for kitchen appliances.”

According to the Fast Company story, “James Dyson Patents All-in-One Kitchen Appliance Kit“, Dyson proposes an “appliance system composed of rectangular units that can be easily stacked together, eliminating wasted space.” The unit would all work off a common power supply and have front controls in one space.

You might know Dyson from TV commercials as the soft-speaking British man selling the vacuum bearing his name. According to the Fast Company story, the bagless vacuum cleaner that operates “on a ball” has made him a billionaire. Could his new modular kitchen appliance also help him corner the market on small kitchen appliances? The Fast Company article points out that someone buying a single module, like a toaster, might also want to buy the modular Dyson blender unit as well, to save space and fit into the rest of the décor.

Dyson’s invention might also be a hit in space-conscious places like Tokyo or London where bread boxed-sized apartments are the norm.
